This is a triumph of a music video. Directed by Jonas Akurlund, the man responsible for Prodigy’s controversial Smack My Bitch Up, Madonna’s Ray Of Light & Christina Aguilera’s Beautiful) & co-starring Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood’s Eric), it tells a delightful, high fashion, comedic short story to a catchy pop tune. I haven’t been this entertained by a video in years.
My favorite bits feature Lady Gaga looking like a tiny lady Karl Lagerfeld who is stripped to a vintage Mugler metal get-up that some of you may remember from George Michael’s Too Funky video & Gaga dressed like a demented Minnie Mouse murderess. The bits with Alexander being sexy and evil himself are also wonderful to watch, and the Swedish pillow talk? Yes please!
The video is inspired by various artists and designers without being a rip-off of artists and designers. The most noteable comparison I can think of are the shots that seem inspired by Guy Bourdin, but it’s in no way a direct copy of Guy Bourdin’s shots like Madonna’s 2004 video for Hollywood, which was shameful.
Lady Gaga’s ability to reveal her inspiration while also making her look and sound unique makes her an inspiration. I have so much fun with this video every time I watch it. I think it’ll go down as being one of my top 10 favorite music videos of all time.

It’s exactly what it sounds like.
