People often ask me what it is like living in Japan.

I think it is different for everyone.  I am an American. I am female.  I am very open and liberal. These things make my experience different from say a Russian man’s, a Irish girl’s, a Korean man’s… you get the idea.

But for me, the best analogy I can come up with it this: living in Japan is like living in Disney World.

  1. You have to take a train or tram most everywhere, and you walk a lot.
  2. You spend a lot of time waiting in lines.
  3. Mickey is fucking EVERYWHERE.
  4. The food is seriously over priced. Actually, everything is.
  5. The service is outstanding.
  6. Parking is shit and hotels near anywhere you WANT to be are super high.
  7. There are people in uniforms and costumes all over the place.
  8. There are lots of lights. LOTS OF LIGHTS. LOTS AND LOTS.
  9. There are an unusual amount of UFO Catchers (you know, those machines where you win a stuffed animal or something) and Ferris Wheels.
  10. There is so much cute shit you could barf, but still some fun stuff too.
  11. You are not surprised to have a cartoon platypus explaining how to ride the trains. Equally adorable cartoon animals will teach you about the post office, litter, what to do in case of emergency, etc.
  12. And last, but not least, it is VERY crowded. Especially at closing time.
